Starting Something New
This was my first week as a sales trainer.
After the better part of 30 years in sales, I’m starting something new.
Most of my career has been spent selling a physical product, backed by the skills and capabilities of a company. I needed confidence in the team behind me and a clear understanding of which buyers we could help.
Now, I’m selling my knowledge.
I’ve spent the last couple of years putting that knowledge together on social media. Last month, I worked on building the structure for my training business. This week, I started putting it to work.
A different buyer. A different close. A different sales process.
The good news is that I have skills to draw on. I still have to learn what those things look like in this business.
That’s the part worth remembering when you change industries, take on a new territory, or start selling a new service. Your experience gives you a foundation. You still need to understand the buyer in front of you.
How much further along are you than when you first started this role? What skills do you have that builds that confidence in front of the customer?
What have you had to relearn when selling something new?
